Ruined sweater upcycled laptop cover

Soooo…. my husband washed my favourite wool cardigan in the washing machine – in warm water. Of course came out super tiny and felted. But instead of throwing it away, I made this laptop cover.

It was a bit tricky figuring out how I could piece everything together, and since it was now child-sized, I ended up having to put in a middle seam where I’d have preferred not to, but such is the fate of using upcycled materials. You kind of have to adapt as you go along.

I cut it into strips and sewed them with a flap at the end, like a pillowcase, for sliding the laptop into.

The coolest bit is that the now tiny shrunken pocket is the perfect size for holding USB sticks!

It’s so rewarding to turn something that was essentially trash into something useful. The felted material was way too thick to be used as a worn garment anymore, so it would have had to be thrown away, if it wasn’t converted into something else.

I now have a few bits left, including the hood from the cardigan. I think my next project will be to make it into a small zipped bag to hold my laptop cables in.
